Inspired by the likes of Masters at Work and Mousse T, Fedde Le Grand is known as an all-around DJ possessed of a special knack for decorating energetic, danceable house music with acoustic, hip-hop, and electro touches. Born in Utrecht, Netherlands, in 1977, Le Grand is best known for 2006's "Put Your Hands up for Detroit," the stutter-stepping electro track that received a battery of vocal overdubs last year courtesy of Eminem's Detroit-based hip-hop crew D12.
In 2004, Le Grand teamed up with old homies Funkerman and Raf Jansen to launch Flamingo Recordings, whose ongoing mission is to provide an independent platform where artists can release their tracks "without any compromises and therefore retain their underground identities." In March last year, Le Grand embarked on his first international tour, which saw him soldier through Indonesia, Australia, and New Zealand. The tour ended at the 2007 Winter Music Conference in Miami, at which he took home International Dance Music Awards such as Best Breakthrough Solo Artist, Best Breaks/Electro Sound, and Best Underground House Track. His debut artist album, Output, is due out on Ultra Records early next year, and he should be spinning a few of those tracks at Saturday's gig at Mansion.
