Miami resident Farah Juste is one of Haitian music’s premier singer/songwriters. For nearly 30 years, Juste has written provocative political songs championing the rights of Haitians at home, in South Florida and those scattered throughout the Diaspora. Her lyrics embody a rapturous love of country and profound pain for the decades of brutal political corruption that have transformed the former “Pearl of the Antilles” into the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. To commemorate two Haitian national holidays, Independence Day on New Year’s Day and Day of the Forefathers on January 2, Juste will stage a concert at the James L. Knight Center, where she is, quite appropriately, depicted on a mural in front of a Haitian flag.
