Until her “O.G. Bitch” joint last year, Esthero was best known for her appearances on other people’s songs, including some by Ian Pooley (“Balmes [A Better Life]”) and Black Eyed Peas (“Weekends”). We R In Need of a Musical Revolution, a 30-minute teaser for an album scheduled for release this year, marks her move to center stage; it’s classic L.A. pop, from the breezy “Everyday Is a Holiday [With You]” to the cool jazz of “This Lullaby.” The best of the six cuts is the title track, where she unleashes the same feistiness that made “O.G. Bitch” a major club hit. “I’m sick and tired of the shit on the radio,” she complains. “With MTV, they only play the same thing/Everywhere I go, I see Ashanti in the video/I want something more.”
