La Roux fits comfortably with a wealth of compelling female pop acts with flamboyant hairstyles indicative of their songcraft. Like Robyn, Little Boots and Annie before her, La Roux singer Elly Jackson and music programmer Ben Langmaid are keenly aware of finding a balance between the dancefloor-ready sounds of electro with the flow of a top 40 hit.

At this point, the synthesizer pop found on La Roux’s self-titled debut has made its biggest impact in England, songs like “Quicksand” and “Bulletproof” are infectious enough to capture a niche audience here. August 4’s visit to the Culture Room should bring out a sparkling crowd, so set that hairdresser appointment now. Tickets are on sale now.

The “Bulletproof” video, which sums up pretty much every reason why hitting this show is an imperative, follows below.
