Duran Duran Moves Concert to Bayfront Park Amid Miami Open Drama

It's only February and we have no shortage of concerts to look forward to this year, but we can go ahead and add another to the list.

It was just announced that Duran Duran will be stopping by Bayfront Park Amphitheater on Friday, April 1, with special guest Nile Rodgers, the legendary guitarist, founder of Chic, and Daft Punk collaborator.

This concert was originally scheduled to take place at the Miami Open tennis tournament, but was met with resistance from Miami-Dade County government, who felt that the concert — which was being held as an event separate from the tournament itself — violated the event rules of Crandon Park. There is only allowed to be one commercial activity held at the park each year — the Miami Open. Tickets for the Duran Duran concert were being sold separately from tickets to the Miami Open, which local government officials weren't too happy about.

“The County has been made aware that your firm, International Players Championship (IPC) intends to host a concert on April 1, 2016, featuring Duran Duran,” Parks chief Jack Kardys said, according to the Miami Herald. “Accordingly, as it is currently envisioned, IPC may not use the Crandon Park Tennis Center for the Duran Duran concert.”

Tthe open has posted a statement on its website.

Doors will open at 7:00pm and the show will begin promptly at 8:00pm with CHIC featuring NILE RODGERS, who have been added to the show as the Special Guest (opening act).

Those that have already purchased tickets for the concert will receive a full refund of the entire purchase amount on Monday, February 8, with the transaction appearing on the credit card statement within 2-3 business days.

Along with the refund, previous ticket purchasers will receive an email on February 8 with instructions on how to purchase tickets through Ticketmaster.

This special presale is set to begin on Tuesday, February 9 at 10:00am and will end on Friday, February 12 at 10:00pm. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Saturday, February 13 at 10:00am.

The Miami Open is sorry for the inconvenience and hopes fans are still able to attend the DURAN DURAN concert that will now take place at Bayfront Park Amphitheatre on Friday, April 1 at 8:00pm.

Duran Duran is touring in support of its most recent album, Paper Gods, released last September. The Paper Gods Tour starts on March 28 in Durham, North Carolina. Fans who purchase tickets to the concert online will receive a physical copy of the album Paper Gods.

Presale tickets go on sale this Thursday, February 11, at 10 a.m. General public tickets are available for purchase on February 13 at 10 a.m. via livenation.com.
