The deliciously sinister beats of Dom & Roland have been fueling the drum ‘n’ bass scene ever since there was a drum ‘n’ bass scene. Recording for seminal genre labels like No-U-Turn and Moving Shadow (and latterly DRP, for Dom & Roland Productions, home to top artists like Klute and Hive), Dom & Roland has often been mistaken for a hell-raising duo. That’s not entirely untrue, but this acclaimed DJ/production group actually consists of Dominic Angas and his Roland S760 sampler. (He has taken on a lot of other equipment to make tunes since his start, but you know what they say about your first love.)

As if this wasn’t all confusing enough, Friday evening at the Laundry Bar will also feature a spin cycle of two-person DJ “battling,” with locals The Engineer vs. Mizz K, Chino vs. Methodus, Burn vs. Frank Mendez, and Electron-C vs. Spindle. Still, we don’t expect Dom & Roland to be squaring off in the musical ring. Unless, of course, Roland decides to be petulant and short-circuit — but he might not even be around for this outing.
