DMX Cries on MTV, Opens Up About "Rocky Relationship" with "Mommy"

Tears, they're not often shed in the rap game. But during an appearance on MTV's RapFix Live yesterday, DMX dropped his tough-guy persona and let the waterworks flow.

X was talking about his mom when he choked up, detailing the painful past that the two share and their counseling session on VH1's Couples Therapy, which aired in April.

"Me and mother always had a rocky relationship," X told MTV. "I think when we did the show, I hadn't spoken to my mother for eight or nine years."

According to the Couples Therapy website, DMX's mother abandoned the MC when he was just a boy, causing serious emotional issues that have affected him throughout his adult life.

But thanks to the magic of exploitative reality television, X and his "mommy" have been able to work on their relationship, repairing the damaged bond between son and mother.

"She's alive, and if she would've passed and not have me on good terms with her, I wouldn't be able to forgive myself," the Ruff Ryders MC admitted. "Forget the apology, forget the apology of what I did wrong. As a grown man, with children of my own, as a grown man, I just wanted to be able say the word: 'mommy.'"

That's how Ruff Ryders roll.
