The international EDM community is a major sausage fest. But there's no denying that women are on the rise.

Over the last few years, DJ-producers such as Anja Schneider, Cassy, Nina Kraviz, Maya Janes Coles, and Steffi have been challenging the norm with their own chart-topping output and headlining performances all around the globe.

Recently dubbed "the new queen of house" by DJ Mag, Deniz Kurtel is one of the latest additions to this growing rank of female power players.

It helps that Kurtel's a card-carrying member of the hotly-tipped Wolf + Lamb collective, which fostered her fledgling studio work. But lend an ear to Music Watching Over Me, her 2010 debut long-player on Crosstown Rebels, and you'll hear the work of an authentic talent who needed no hype to win over listeners.

It's a brooding and seductive work with plenty of banging floor grooves, including standout track "The L Word" featuring Jada, which was ubiquitously heard throughout WMC and Miami Music Week. Catch Deniz Kurtel on her first headlining Miami performance at the Electric Pickle next Friday and find out why the ladies are taking over.

Deniz Kurtel. Friday, April 29. Electric Pickle, 2826 N. Miami Ave., Miami. The party starts at 10 p.m. Call 305-456-5613 or visit electricpicklemiami.com.
