David Byrne Unveils Who Is the Sky Tour, Featuring Back-to-Back Miami Dates

Days after making a surprise appearance during Olivia Rodrigo’s set during Governors Ball, Talking Heads frontman David Byrne has announced his upcoming Who Is the Sky Tour.

The tour kicks off in Providence, Rhode Island, on September 14, stopping in cities like New York, Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, and Los Angeles along the way. The North American leg will conclude at the Fillmore Miami Beach on December 5 and 6, before continuing to Australia, the UK, and Europe.

Byrne’s last South Florida appearance was at the same venue on September 29, 2018. The sold-out show was part of his American Utopia Tour.

The new dates are in support of Byrne's upcoming album, Who Is the Sky, set for release on September 5 via Matador Records. The album features Hayley Williams, St. Vincent, and Tom Skinner and sees Byrne collaborating with producer Kid Harpoon and Ghost Train Orchestra.
The Scotland-born, Baltimore-raised music legend is best known for his work with Talking Heads, the art punk/postpunk/new wave New York City band he cofounded, whose peak in the 1970s and ‘80s saw it amass critical acclaim. Songs like “Psycho Killer,” “Burning Down the House,” and “Road to Nowhere” solidified Talking Heads' legacy as one of the most influential acts of its era.

Byrne has also had a prolific career as a solo musician, visual artist, and filmmaker. He released his collaborative album, My Life in the Bush of Ghosts, with Brian Eno in 1981, eventually following up with his proper solo debut, Rei Momo, in 1989.

His upcoming album, Who Is the Sky, is Byrne’s follow-up to 2018’s American Utopia, which had an accompanying Broadway show that ran from 2020 to 2022, along with a Spike Lee-directed documentary of the production released in late 2020.
