Despite the group’s phenomenal success of X&Y, which has already sold in excess of two million copies in the U.S. since its early-June release, this heir apparent to the U2 throne promises a satisfying show sans the arrogance of other Brit rock stars such as Oasis and Tony Blair. Chris Martin has always been Coldplay’s enigmatic figurehead — and an undying media presence owing to his celebrity wife — but the band (which also counts bassist Guy Berryman, lead guitarist Jonny Buckland, and drummer Will Champion) is the sum of its parts, which is evident in this live show. Expect everything from “Yellow” and “Don’t Panic” to “Clocks,” “The Scientist,” and “Speed of Sound,” and it’ll all be packaged as the feel-good show of the summer thanks to Martin’s goofy, between-song observations.
