Caribou is the new moniker of Canadian-born, London-based producer Dan Snaith, formerly known as Manitoba. No cause for alarm: The change was made for legal, not artistic, reasons. The Milk of Human Kindness is a continuation of Snaith’s melodic pulse-anchored, groove-oriented, pressure-cooked beat excursions, except now his inspirations span from sprawling early Seventies psychedelic rock to galvanic early Seventies Krautrock. Also apparent among the one-man band’s used record bin-pinching tracks are traces of bluesy, lyrical licks of guitar, folksy crooning, and dynamic builds of belching percussion.
