The dance music festival season has traditionally begun in Candyland. Held at Nocturnal this year, the Candyland event has been around even longer than Winter Music Conference and holds the title of Florida’s longest-running dance music festival. In the past ten years, it has played host to everyone from Josh Wink to Bad Boy Bill to Icey. This year’s headliner is electro-breaks duo Jackal and Hyde. Their sound is both slippery and cavernous, revealing the points of intersection between industrial’s dark hues and Miami bass’s hedonistic thump. They’ve remixed everyone from Kid Rock to Love and Rockets (find another pretext for mentioning those two in the same sentence). Other performers this year include local turntablist DJ Craze spinning a Miami bass set, the legendary Adam F headlining the drum and bass room, and UK duo Hydraulix performing their very first live set.
