Cameo Reopening Halloween Night Under Opium Group Management

When Cameo opened in 2007, it marked Louis Puig's first venture in South Beach. After success with Space in Miami's Park West district, it only made sense that Puig would be able to do it again across the causeway. Well, that didn't exactly turn out to be true as rumors started flying around that Puig wanted out.

The venue closed earlier this year with little reaction, probably because talk of its closure had begun almost as soon as it had opened its doors. But the closure will be temporary as Cameo is expected to reopen October 31 under new management. Er, well the managers aren't exactly new to South Beach. In bizarre move, Opium Group has leased Cameo. The company already operates Mansion, SET, Louis, Wall Lounge and Opium in South Florida alone, so adding another venue, particularly the size of Cameo, when you've got five other venues to worry about just doesn't sound like good business sense to us.

Rumors suggested that the move to lease Cameo was Opium Group's way to make sure nobody else would move into the space. Others said it was because the company planned to close Mansion due to high rent and diminished demand for bottle service. Vice president of communications Vanessa Menkes dismissed rumors that the company plans to close Mansion. "Mansion is not going anywhere, it's the Opium Group's most beloved club."

As far as what we can expect from the new Cameo, Menkes didn't reveal anything saying "all plans are top secret for now." No fair! So if you know anything, please feel free to let us know.
