From electro-pop to mainstream success as one of dance music's biggest names, Calvin Harris's rise to the top has been quite the whirlwind adventure.

And though he may not be the richest man in the world, his hard work has paid off handsomely. If not in freshly minted currency, the Scottish-born, London-based DJ/singer/producer has surely banked a hefty chunk of frequent flyer miles. And in a time when airline fees are astronomical, every perk counts.

But a grueling travel schedule and lack of focus nearly got the best of Harris a few years ago.

"I've stopped the live shows," he told Australia's Herald Sun in 2010. "I'm not a singer, I'm not trained. Taking it onto the stage in front of people was terrifying. I got much, much better at it but I never lost the terror."

Instead of singing on tracks (as he did on his debut LP, 2007's I Created Disco), Harris shifted his focus and told the paper, "I'm going to focus slightly more on production and DJing, and zero percent of my time will go on singing. I'll do tracks with people who can sing well: proper artists, proper performers."

And so Harris will be doing what he does best -- DJing -- on Thursday, June 7 at LIV.

Calvin Harris. Thursday, June 7. LIV, 4441 Collins Ave., Miami Beach. The party starts at at 11 p.m. and tickets cost $75 plus fees via wantickets.com. Call (305) 674-4680 or visit www.livnightclub.com.
