Miami has been the perfect backdrop for countless music videos: from Will Smith cruising down Ocean Drive to Rihanna serving pure glam and our beloved Gloria Estefan dancing through the streets. Most recently, Rico Nasty and Boys Noize brought the edge by La Sandwicherie, across the street from Mac's Club Deuce in Española Way, with their single H.O.T.

It’s no surprise that Miami is a prolific place for local music video directors. And if you’ve got a music video ready to shine, FilmGate Festival, named the best Festival in Miami in 2025, wants to put it on the big screen for its next edition.

Every month, FilmGate spotlights Florida’s film scene — short films, docs, web series, and yes, music videos — each with its theme. September’s theme is all about what happens when sound meets visuals. Whether it’s a moody slow-burn or a hype anthem, if it was filmed in Florida or directed by a Florida-based creative, it’s eligible.

Here’s the deal: The screening will take place on Thursday, September 25, at the Miami Beach Bandshell, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. The event will kick off with a live performance, screenings of the selected music videos, and plenty of chances to mingle with Miami’s creative crowd before and after the show at the Film Community Networker.

Once the videos roll, stick around for the Filmmaker Q&A, where directors, artists, and producers discuss their creative process. The night will wrap with an Awards Ceremony, where the Jury’s Choice Award for Best Film of the Night will be announced, and two more live performances to close things out with a bang.
Want in? The deadline is August 29. You can submit your work via filmfreeway.com/FilmGateFestival. There are a few requirements to keep in mind: It has to be original music only, 20 minutes or less in length, and all rights need to be cleared. The director must be based in Florida, or the video filmed in the state. Last but not least, one representative must attend the screening.

Applications cost $25, but if you are a student or a veteran, you can email the organizers to receive a waiver code.
