Calle 13’s Residente and Visitante are nominated for ten Latin Grammys this year, an impressive stat for a group that in the past five years has gone from the viral diatribe of “Fuck The Dear FBI” to filling stadiums in Argentina, Peru, Colombia, Chile, and wherever else they play.
Lead vocalist Residente recently told Crossfade, “We are fighting for the connection between Puerto Rico and Latin America, because Puerto Rico is disconnected from what is happening in the rest of the world.”
Check out Resi and Visi’s new video, an amazingly poetic documentary-style tribute to the various customs and cultures of “Latinoamérica.”
Will you step up to support New Times this year?
At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $17,000 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.
Calle 13. Saturday, October 15. The Plaza at the American Airlines Arena, 601 Biscayne Blvd., Miami. The invasion starts at 9 p.m. and tickets cost $36.50 plus fees via ticketmaster.com. Call 786-777-1000 or visit aaarena.com.
