Seeing a Hasidic Jewish man on stage free styling and beat boxing between his hardcore reggae songs might seem off-putting at first but it shouldn’t. All that’s happening lyrically is reggae’s traditional Rastafarian religious views being replaced by Jewish teachings, the dreadlocks are replaced by payot, and there’s not nearly as much talk of smoking weed. But when it comes down to pure musicality, showmanship, and the ability to whip a crowd into a frenzy, Matisyahu is the real deal.

You’ll quickly realize Matisyahu is no novelty act once he breaks into “One Day” or “King Without a Crown”, peppering in beat boxing that would make the Fat Boys blush. Check out the video below to see what all the fuss is about.

Matisyahu will be performing at the Buzz Bake Sale in Cruzan Ampitheater on Saturday, December 5, along with Chevelle, The Used, Cage the Elephant, Panic At The Disco, Manchester Orchestra, and more. Tickets are $40 for reserved seats, $20 for lawn.
