You know, somebody really should come out with a Beyond the Grave mixtape series. Morbid, yes. But given the number of stellar rappers/producers who have passed away over the years (still tripping off of Camu Tao’s death this past Sunday), it would probably be a smash success.
When Brooklyn’s DJ Soul created his Assorted Donuts mixtape last year, one of the tracks he put on there was a remix of the late Big L’s “Put it On” featuring production from the late J. Dilla running underneath it. The song is banging and it’s a nice change up from the Diggin’ in the Crates beat used in the original version.
Although both MC’s have passed on, they’ve got new life on YouTube thanks to Uncle Ralph who edited the video below. Check it out. This one’s especially timely since Big L’s birthday is tomorrow.
