Bardot and DFA Records sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G...
After celebrating its 10th Anniversary with Holy Ghost!, Nancy Whang, and Juan MacLean at Bardot, DFA Records' love affair with the Midtown lounge has literally reached telenovela-level hotness.
Miami's best neighborhood bar 2010 just announced that The Crystal Ark, a DFA collaboration between Gavin Russom and telenovela director Viva Ruiz, will headline the January 5 edition of the Living Room Sessions concert series.
The inspiration for The Crystal Ark struck during a five-week tour of Brazil where Russom became enamored with the sounds of Carioca funk, atabaque drumming, and tropicalia. The DFA resident tech nerd quickly teamed up with Ruiz and started focusing on the rhythm, physicality, and movement that would eventually become The Crystal Ark.
Last year, the duo released five-minute single "The City Never Sleeps," a sultry, bilingual ditty peppered with infectious bleep-bleeps and bloop-bloops. On "Touch," The Crystal Ark's follow-up, Ruiz and Russom do it again, adding hints of glass percussion and drum machine tap-taps for yet another highly addictive dance jam.
The Crystal Ark. Thursday, January 5. Bardot, 3456 N. Miami Ave., Miami. The show starts at at 10 p.m. and tickets cost $10 plus fees via bardotmiami.showclix.com. Ages 21 and up. Call 305-576-7750 or visit bardot.com.
