Over the weekend, Mexican rock star Alejandra Guzmán arrived at the Fillmore Miami Beach to celebrate 25 years of rock ‘n’ roll and desmadre.
After a series of health issues that threatened her life, the singer, actress, and Grammy winner thanked God for getting her back on the stage, but most of all, for giving her more life to live.

La Guzmán, as everybody in the industry knows her, has been a music icon since the 1980s, with 13 albums to her credit.
With this tour across the United States, she has sold out shows in cities like San Francisco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Houston, El Paso, and McAllen, Texas, among others.
We here at Crossfade are used to seeing Alejandra in the streets of Miami, where she spends time with her family. But this was her first time performing in the city.
Apparently, she thought that she didn’t have enough fans on this side of the country. But the crowd at the Fillmore sang every single song with the “Queen of Rock,” as she is known in the Hispanic world.
La Guzmán opened with “Mírala, Míralo,” one of her all-time greatest hits. And her fans screamed, knowing this would be a night to remember.
Between each song, videos of Alejandra flashed on a big LED screen — a collection of snippets from her life, her career triumphs, and even her health struggles. The world is accustomed to a very energetic and controversial rock chick, but the woman in the videos was a more understated and simpler one.
Her song “Volverte a Amar” was dedicated to those who still believe in love, and “Mi Peor Error” to those who make mistakes but get up and learn from them.
Two of the night’s highlights were the moments when Alejandra invited Spanish singer Beatriz Luengo to sing “Quítatelo” and Colombian singer Fonseca to sing “Yo No Soy de Nadie.”
Later, Alejandra’s daughter, Frida Sofía, who was sitting in first row, went on stage and danced with her mom.
Another very emotional moment was Guzmán’s rendition of the song “Yo Te Esperaba,” dedicated to her daughter. They hugged and teared up as the crowd sang along.
A moment later, though, she joked, introducing the song “Mala Hierba” by repeating the famous Latin phrase “Mala hierba nunca muere” and saying we can’t get rid of her that easily. We should expect, she added, to have her around for a long time.
To finish the night, Alejandra sang “Hacer el Amor con Otro” and “Un Grito en la Noche,” leaving everybody at the Fillmore pleading for yet another canción.
It was a memorable night for La Guzmán. Her first appearance in Miami was a success. And yes, she seems as strong as ever.
