From its red- and green-striped exterior to the colorful rooster sculpture that stands outside the door, Taquerias El Mexicano has the feel of a Mexican tienda. Pinatas hang from the ceiling, and rows of Mexican spices for sale grace the wall behind the counter. Service is a little slow at times. If you visit during lunch, you'll likely spend a full hour here. All meals start with sometimes-greasy chips and salsa. The carne asada, cochinita pibil, or al pastor tacos are tasty choices. If you just can't choose one menu item, order a combo such as the taco, tostada, and enchilada.
