Off the Grille

It might seem off-the-wall to say Kendall's Off the Grille is an upscale, healthful eatery in a traffic-choked shopping mall. But if you've eaten at OTG (as the regulars like to call it), it doesn't sound that far-fetched. This sleek little place proves that good-tasting and good for you are not morons of the oxy variety, whether you're grabbing a daily lunch or dinner of burgers or juicy marinated pork. The steak fajita wrap — a whole-wheat tortilla stuffed with tender chunks of smoky grilled sirloin and bulked up with sautéed onions, roasted peppers, and chipotle fajita sauce — delivers all the flavor without adding a muffin top to your waistline. Another tasty surprise are the yuca bites, hot and crisp on the outside and delightfully creamy on the inside. Regulars always go for the daily specials — such as stellar seared ahi tuna with brown rice and veggies — that are scrawled on a chalkboard next to the register. Just be forewarned when perusing specials: When they say "jerked," they mean extremely spicy!
