After closing its longtime South Miami storefront earlier this fall, Wall’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream has officially returned to the neighborhood in a new location directly across the street from its original home.
The beloved ice cream parlor is now operating out of the former food truck space at the Big Cheese, reviving one of Miami’s most iconic dinner-and-dessert pairings. For longtime fans, the move means Wall’s is once again a step away from post-pizza scoops, without even having to cross U.S. 1.
“We never wanted to leave South Miami,” owner Felipe Grabiel tells New Times, who has owned Wall’s for more than a decade. “We knew the shop wasn’t disappearing. This community has always been home.”

The Big Cheese Partnership Feels Natural for Residents
The new setup operates as a permanent location, marking the end of Wall’s brief absence from the area after its original storefront closed in October. If the Big Cheese is open, Wall’s is open, Grabiel said.
He added that the partnership feels especially natural, noting the long-standing connection between the two businesses. For more than two decades, it has been a ritual for many in South Miami, Pinecrest, and neighboring areas to grab pizza at the Big Cheese before crossing the street for ice cream at Wall’s.
Same Ol’ Flavors Customers Love
Customers can expect the same classic Wall’s experience, including more than 25 rotating flavors across the brand, with slightly fewer available at any given time compared to the original brick-and-mortar location.
Favorites like cookies and cream, dulce de leche, and mint flake remain staples, along with sundaes, shakes, and pints available to go. While Wall’s has returned to South Miami through its partnership with the Big Cheese, the Sunset Drive shop remains the brand’s only brick-and-mortar location, where guests can find the full lineup of flavors and where all ice cream production takes place, something that isn’t possible from the food truck setup.
Delivery is also available through third-party apps, allowing guests to order ice cream to enjoy alongside their meal at the Big Cheese.

Breezy Outdoor Seating and Food Next Door
The new location offers outdoor seating under the trees, with plans underway to add more seating and exterior decor. Grabiel said the team is also working toward a more seamless integration with the Big Cheese, allowing diners to order ice cream directly to their tables. The partnership, he said, came together naturally after years of shared customers and overlapping traditions. “People have been pairing pizza and Wall’s for decades,” Grabiel tells New Times. “Now it’s easier than ever.”
For Grabiel, who grew up in Coral Gables enjoying Wall’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream, the return feels personal. “I scoop happiness every day,” he says. “It’s the best job there is.”
