Vicky Bakery officially opens the doors today, October 29, to its Coral Gables location.

This will mark the 13th location for the classic Cuban bakery, which was established in 1972. It will be the first to offer a full-service cafe, which will open in November.

But for now, the cafe will provide favorites like pastelitos and croquetas, including a ready-to-go tray of 25 assorted pieces that include guava/cheese and meat varieties for $9. Also notable in the City Beautiful, where prices can run steep? Cuban coffee for a buck!

Mike Belaustegui, whose grandparents founded the first Vicky Bakery, looks forward to being part of the neighborhood, saying, “We aim to stay true to our Cuban traditions, ones that almost every Miami resident can relate to, yet at the same time do it in a way that caters to the vibrant and cosmopolitan atmosphere characteristic of this area.”

Other menu items include bistec a caballo ($8); croqueta preparada sandwiches ($6.50); media noches on freshly baked potato bread ($6.25); cantimpalo, a manchego and serrano ham sandwich ($7.50); and a Cuban sandwich made with house-seasoned pork, made fresh daily ($7.50).

When the restaurant opens for dining in November, chef Alex Rodi will create an extensive menu of gourmet Cuban entrees.

For now, Vicky Bakery is open Monday – Friday 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
