Troy Thomas is a quiet force on the Miami food truck scene. He lets the edibles from his truck, the Rolling Stove, do the talking for him. Then he lets the accolades come to him.

James Cunningham, host of Cooking Channel’s Eat Street, recently put together “Ten Great Places to Feast From a Food Truck” across the country for USA Today. In the list, he names the Rolling Stove among his favorites. Cunningham says, “The truck packs a secret weapon: a wood-burning stove.” It makes what some folks call Miami’s best burger, but

Cunningham is a fan of the sloppy jerk: ground beef with caramelized onions

slathered with Jamaican-style jerk barbecue sauce. “The spice is so perfect; you

taste the meat as opposed to all the spice.”

Here’s a list of the other trucks (in no particular order), in case your travels take you to some of these other cities:

  • The Grilled Cheese Truck (Los Angeles) – Gourmet grilled cheese.
  • Maximus Minimus (Seattle) – This pig-shaped truck gives Seattle food lovers their fill of pork.
  • Big Egg (Portland, OR) – A breakfast-centric truck is what’s sorely lacking in Miami.
  • DC Slices (Washington, DC) – Pizza by the slice, baked fresh in the truck.
  • Spencer On The Go! (San Francisco) – Gourmet French fare, including frogs legs and escargot.
  • The Mighty Cone (Austin) – Tacos in a cone make them less messy and still delicious.
  • Stefania’s Pierogi (Hoboken, NJ) – Polish comfort food, including pierogi, kielbasa and homemade sauerkraut.
  • The Big Gay Ice Cream Truck (New York City) – It’s really a big gay ice cream truck.
  • La Dominique Creperie (Philadelphia) – Freshly made crepes filled with unusual high-quality ingredients like veal stew and coconut chicken.

And here’s a list of food truck roundups for tonight. So far, all roundups are still on. Check Short Order’s Twitter feed for any updates due to Hurricane Irene.
