From ubiquitous suds such as Sam Adams to lesser known and locally produced craft beers like a maple bacon beer presented by Makers Warehouse, the Sprung! Beer Festival definitely brought the beer to Saturday’s party.

Presented by the producers of Grovetoberfest, this “spring and summer craft beer festival” came about as a response to an inbox flooded with requests for a Grovetoberfest in the spring. Apparently the pleas were serious, considering that Coconut Grove was jam-packed and people were lined up at the main entrance at least an hour early. We, with our media passes, thought, ‘ain’t nobody got time for that’ as we entered through the vendor’s entrance.

Perhaps more people than expected, because the only flaw with Sprung was the disorganized games area. Without a referee, merrymakers ran amuck, hogging play time, and not playing well with others. Other partygoers waited indefinitely for a turn, some finally giving up and moving on, in search of some liquid consolation. Fortunately, there was plenty.

Apart from all the beer, there was also food of course. From your standard festival fare like arepas and pretzels, to the gourmet noshing at the VIP tent, there were numerous nibbles available to sober up the plethora of revelers.

Here’s a sampling of the beer and food we came across at Sprung. Salud!

Surprisingly, the line to ride the mechanical bull, was never more than six-people long.
