Independent Journalism in Miami Needs You
We need to raise $10,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.
Hakan Sozen’s Organic Farmers Market is a storefront operation located in Oakland Park, Fl that also sells out of booths at outdoor farmers markets to drive customers to their store. Hakan says, “I do the vegetarian food from the Middle East, organic of course. I usually carry eggplant salad, lantil burgers, grape leaves, zucchini pancakes, it’s all vegetarian.
“I’ve been doing this about 3 years. I happened to drive by a market place, and at the time my business was going down. I asked if I could come in and sell as a promotion and to deliver clientele to the store, and it worked, it was one of the ways we were able to keep the store alive.
“I’m from Istanbul, you know where’s that? it’s the largest city in Turkey. My product sells pretty good because, people know and like Middle Eastern food, and it’s vegetarian, and once people try it they get addicted and keep coming back. I sell to the same people every week.”
