Where the South Beach Wine & Food Festival is concerned, plant-based options have been slow to make inroads. Most events are still heavy on the meat (Meatopia, anyone?), light on the herbivorous fare.

Little by little, however, plant-based edibles are making their way into the foodie fantasyland, and nowhere is this more clear than at Burger Bash this Friday, where for the first time ever, a plant-based burger is on the menu. Beyond Meat‘s Beast Burger, to be exact.

“What better place to debut our revolutionary Beast Burger than at the famous Burger Bash?” said Beyond Meat CEO Ethan Brown. The burger will join a roster of meaty dishes from the likes of Blue Collar, Shake Shack, STK Miami, Red Robin and lots of others.

This is the first time a veggie option has been featured at Burger Bash.

“With more protein and iron than beef and more omegas than salmon, plus gluten-free, The Beast is not your typical veggie burger,” adds Brown. It was designed to be healthier and more nutrient-dense that your standard burger — or veggie burger, for that matter. Not to mention easier on both cows and the environment.

The quarter-pound Beast Burger has even earned positive reviews from the likes of professional athletes and other meat eaters in various taste tests.

“It sizzles like a burger, it sweats like a burger and it has fat in it, healthy fat, so it satiates you,” Brown told the New Times last year.

At Burger Bash, the Beast Burger will be served with tomato chutney, avocado and an onion ring. On the side: Dave’s Potato Salad. Beyond Meat will also be served (in the form of Beyond Beef tacos) at the Grand Tasting Village Friday through Sunday.

Burger Bash is sold out, but if you were lucky enough to snag tickets, make sure you pop by the Beyond Meat stand and give the revolutionary new addition a try.
