Independent Journalism in Miami Needs You
We need to raise $10,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.
Sangria, the wine-based libation popular in Spain and Portugal, is a drink that’s widely open to interpretation. Though the basic recipe calls for wine, chopped fruit, and a touch of brandy, there’s a host of ways to make sangria into a custom drink by getting creative with the fruit and wine, and adding sparking wine, juices, or even different spirits.
Which is why Pavan is challenging Miami’s professional bartenders to channel their inner Spaniard and create a unique and delicious sangria.
Pavan Liqueur is asking mixologists to create original sangria recipes inspired by their dream escape destinations (think cranberry sangria for a Cape Cod getaway or a tropical guava concoction for a Caribbean fantasy). All entries must include at least 1.5oz of Pavan Liqueur. The sangrias will be judged for quality and taste, visual presentation, creativity, and representation of dream destination. The winning bartender will win a dream trip for two to the destination their sangria is based on.
Bartenders can submit their original recipes to pavan-sangria.com before September 26, 2013 for a chance to make their sangria at the semifinals in Miami in October (date and location to be announced). The winner of the Miami semifinals will be sent to the finals in the Florida Keys on November 9 to compete against the winners of semifinals in Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco. In addition to the semifinalists, a Facebook competition will determine two wildcard winners who will compete in the finals. The winner of the final showdown will pack their bags for their dream vacation.
