Gables, the third installation of Patagonia (the other two are located in Doral and Key Biscayne) features delicious empanadas and
sandwiches. But you might want to check it out instead for the incredible glass case of sweets.
Priced at $11.99 per pound (our box
came in at $9.11), the selection includes sweets with few flaws.
The alfajores include a crisp
pastry layered with caramel and dusted with powdered sugar and another
coated in chocolate. The arrollado is
a pinwheel of caramel and moist cake. Also noteworthy are the dulce
de leche cones that come coated
in either dark or white chocolate.
Where Patagonia misses the mark is with its brownie, a concoction with sugary icing, nuts, and a slightly dry consistency.
However, the place redeems itself thanks to its chocolate truffles, which are filled with caramel and powdered chocolate, and studded with chocolate sprinkles. Their appropriate richness and semisweet taste make these truffles small, round bites of nirvana.
