When Ni.Do. Caffe opened three years ago, Miami’s MiMo District was just poised for a turnaround. The trattoria and mozzarella bar was nestled in one of the few gentrified strip malls in a part of Miami that was first emerging as a dining destination. With a quaint decor filled with a specials chalkboard and pottery from Italy’s Amalfi Coast, the restaurant charmed locals, who became smitten with Ni.Do.’s pastas and cheeses.

Now, Ni.Do. Caffe is expanding to another neighborhood on the verge of a culinary breakthrough with the opening of a second location, at 11052 Biscayne Blvd., in the former Tunky Tunky space. (It is squeezed between North Miami and Miami Shores.) Already, work has begun on the restaurant, which is poised for a quick turnaround, which means the new Ni.Do. could open as early as the end of July, according to a manager at the flagship restaurant.

The new Ni.Do. will be joined in the area by the first American outpost of IGA, the Instituto Gastronómico de las Americasa cooking school opening on NE 108th Street and Biscayne. A new Aldi is also set to open on 107th and Biscayne, adjacent to Kmart.

Although the menu is still being finalized, core dishes at the original location will be found at the new Ni.Do. Expect favorites like osso buco ravioli, lasagna, and veal scaloppine. The restaurant’s mozzarella bar, which features five kinds of creamy cheeses, including bufala from the Campania region of Italy and smoky affumicata, will also be available.

The new location, however, will offer a bakery component. The northern Ni.Do. Caffe will feature pizzas and bakery items like fresh breads that will be available for take-out and dining in.

No word yet on the decor, but the exterior is getting a considerable brightening up, with a fresh coat of paint and bold red signage. Stay tuned for more information as we receive it.
