If there’s one popular South Miami café and bakery that high school teens, college students, and young adults alike love in 2025, it’s Honey Veil. The homegrown bakery by sisters Regina and Cecilia Alcobe-Garibay and their mother (also named Cecilia) will open its first-ever brick-and-mortar café at 5748 Sunset Dr. in South Miami on Saturday, December 6. The shop is currently operating with limited online orders and walk-ins until Saturday.
Ranked second in New Times‘ ranking of the Best Matcha in Miami 2025, it’s safe to say that everyone is already buzzing with excitement over the opening (or is that the caffeine kicking in?).

From a Tiny Pop-Up to Full-Blown Café
The family enterprise began in 2024, when Regina and Cecilia noticed that their mother’s sourdough bread was popular with community groups, resulting in weekly orders. Honey Veil was born when it debuted at the Coconut Grove Farmers’ Market in October 2024, and later expanded to markets at Merrick Park and Key Biscayne.
As the business grew, so did the sisters’ ambitions. In February 2025, they launched the Honey Veil trailer, enabling them to expand their offerings through a mobile setup. It also allowed them to experiment with Honey Veil as a café concept, adding new menu items such as coffee and matcha drinks.

From Fan-Favorite Cinnamon Rolls to Gluten-Free Goodies
Their baked goods have expanded well beyond their mother’s initial sourdough recipe, now including a range of loaves, cookies, cinnamon rolls, and scones, with flavors being introduced as the seasons change.
Beyond Honey Veil’s menu, Regina and Cecilia also focus on wellness, offering gluten-free products and items free of refined sugars. To sweeten their baked goods, the sisters use maple syrup and coconut sugar. There are also non-dairy drink options, including almond, oat, and pistachio. (Note that because everything is made in the same kitchen, cross-contamination is a possibility.)

The South Miami Queens of Matcha
Some of the café’s most popular offerings include the matcha drinks, which stem from Cecilia’s younger years, when she studied abroad in Japan and immersed herself in the country’s café culture. Matcha drinks are also a somewhat viral trend among Gen Z and Gen Alpha consumers.
Honey Veil’s take on the popular Japanese green tea beverage features its signature “Honey Veil Matcha Latte,” which combines grassy matcha notes with an espresso shot and milk, as well as the “Blue Babe Matcha,” paired with honey-sweetened blueberry jam. However, what makes the sisters’ matcha and coffee drinks so special is the “Honey Whipp” cold foam topping, which is made with honey, gelatin powder, and water. It adds a level of indulgence to any drink.
Beyond the items already popular with the legion of Honey Veil fans, Regina and Cecilia have been teasing the brick-and-mortar menu, including a honey bread slathered in butter and a sourdough toast with brie, fig jam, prosciutto, arugula, and balsamic vinegar.
