After exactly half a century of being a daily ritual for University of Miami students, Coral Gables families, and area residents, Bagel Emporium & Grille has officially opened the doors to its brand-new home, and Miami residents are already lining up.
Founded in 1975, the beloved deli has relocated from its longtime spot at the University Shopping Center on South Dixie Highway to a new, more polished address at 225 Altara Ave. in downtown Coral Gables. However, it was an emotional move for many.
For five decades, Bagel Emporium was the kind of place you went in flip-flops after class, fueled by toasted bagels (one of the 10 Best Bagels in Miami), tuna melts, matzo ball soup, and some of the most comforting diner-style burgers in the city. When news broke that the original building would be demolished to make way for a significant mixed-use development, longtime customers and regulars worried that an era was coming to an end. Instead, what they got was a wonderful glow-up.

Stunning Dining Room with The Same Heart
The new Bagel Emporium space is larger, brighter, and undeniably more “bougie Gables” than its old-school predecessor, but it still feels like home. The expansive dining room gives the restaurant room to breathe, with more seating for lingering breakfasts and group lunches, while the kitchen finally has the space to expand what it does best. Regulars will recognize all the classics they love, from freshly baked bagels and overstuffed deli sandwiches to hearty breakfast plates that have cured countless Miami mornings.
Since opening at its new location in January 2026, the response has been overwhelmingly warm. Fans who grew up eating here are showing up with their kids in tow, while newer neighbors are discovering why this deli has endured for nearly 50 years. It is the kind of cross-generational loyalty that cannot be manufactured, and Bagel Emporium has it in spades.

A Delicious New Chapter
Owner David Strawderman has described the move as a new chapter rather than a reinvention, and it shows. While the setting may be sleeker, the restaurant’s soul remains intact. This is still a place where the coffee flows freely, the portions are generous, and nobody rushes you out the door.
Bagel Emporium’s move marks the end of its iconic Dixie Highway chapter, but its story is far from over. In its new Coral Gables home, the deli is proving that even in a changing Miami, there is always room for tradition, nostalgia, and a delicious bagel.
