Tomorrow is April 20, also known as 4/20, when millions of people come out in support of the legalization of marijuana, pot, weed, Mary Jane, ganja, herb, joy stick.

Some say the origin involves a group of teens in San Rafael, California, who would meet after school at 4:20 p.m. Others argue it’s police code for marijuana possession or the length of time of an average buzz from a joint. Whatever the beginnings, 420 has stuck, and Eating House is celebrating!

Chef/partner Giorgio Rapicavoli told Short Order that his team is celebrating 4/20 — mostly because they can. “I worked at a very corporate hotel for three years,” he said. “With Eating House, I can plan menus and I can hold events that I never could have done before. I can celebrate this underground holiday.”

Asked if he, um, indulges, Rapicavoli replied, “I run a restaurant. I can’t walk around baked.” He did note that kitchen culture traditionally has a liberal view of smoking weed, and he supports the movement to legalize marijuana. “Besides,” he sagely added, “you don’t have to be Irish to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.”

The special 4/20 fete will feature a specially priced munchies menu
— all items will be priced at (you guessed it) $4.20. They include:

  • Braised short-rib nachos
  • Mac ‘n’ cheese
  • Chips with Funyun dip
  • “Breakfast” cereal dessert
  • Brownie sundae w/ Dutchmaster blunt-infused vanilla ice cream

restaurant will be decorated for the occasion, though we’re not sure if

that means tie-dye hippie or classic Rasta. Asked which camp he belongs to, Rapicavoli said he was torn. But then we noticed he was sporting red, gold, and green laces on his work

kicks.

Classic stoner movies such as Up in Smoke and Half Baked will

Bob Marley will be featured to complete the mellow mood. The party will go  all evening, from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. this Friday.

Any tips

or suggestions from Chef Rapicavoli before heading down? “Come with the munchies. And if the staff is a little, well, extra laid-back on Friday, just go with

the flow and enjoy!”
