Hallelujah! The summer is officially over. How do we know when the weather is still in the 80’s every day and we still can’t get the mail without applying SPF 50?
Joe’s Stone Crab is officially open for business today.
The iconic restaurant, which opened in 1913 (that’s two years before the city of Miami Beach was even incorporated for you history buffs out there), will resume dinner service today, October 11 at 5 p.m.
Doors open at 4 p.m. so you can put your name on the list and grab a drink, since Joe’s doesn’t take reservations.
Will you step up to support New Times this year?
At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $16,750 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.
Joe’s Take Away also opens at 5 p.m. tonight.
This
season marks two celebrations for the restaurant, which has been in the
same family for generations. In January, 2013, the restaurant will
begin its 100th anniversary celebration, with a special edition wine, commemorative bibs, food specials, and events.
Also new for this year is the Joe’s Stone Crab memories page,
a virtual scrapbook where fans of the restaurant are invited to
share pictures and stories. Reading through them is pretty fascinating
with people from all walks of life living, eating, laughing,
celebrating, and (in one case) going into labor at the eatery.
That’s one restaurant with history.
