The first Hurricane Grill & Wings premiered in Fort Pierce, Florida, in 1995. Now there are 33 — the most recent addition having opened yesterday in the Shops at Midtown Miami. The chain, known for five categories of wings and more than 30 dipping sauces, is celebrating the new outlet with a Beach-Themed Block Party next Thursday, August 26, from 5 to 9 p.m. The free event includes live music, a food buffet, a jumbo-chicken-wing-eating contest (good cluck to the participants), a kiddie play area, prizes, and giveaways. Plus a lifeguard (for the beach theme).
To show that its heart is in the right place (close to the wings, I believe), Hurricane Grill will pause from the festivities and present a donation check for $2,000 to the local chapter of the Humane Society of Greater Miami.

At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $16,750 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.
