Independent Journalism in Miami Needs You
We need to raise $10,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.
Jason Ibarra and Fulbio Parodi know that Miami restaurants make huge profits on alcohol. So they recently formed Halfoffdrinks.com, a site devoted solely to discounted drinks and bar bites.
Ibarra says he and his partner came up with the site after following mega deal sites like Groupon and Living Social — and noticing that a lot of the deals were for thing he and his friends weren’t interested in — like teeth cleaning and spa treatments.
In fact, the halfoffdrinks.com website has a promise on the home page of
“no spas, no yoga, so lipo.” What it does promise is a slew of half
priced or better deals at mid-range pubs, restaurants, and bars that
generally serve food, though the site will concentrate on libations and
bar bites, not dinner bargains.
Ibarra won’t disclose
any of the bars he’s inked deals with, he said to think on the lines of
“Blue Martini, Bonefish Grill, or Segafredo. We’re not going for the dive bars.”
So far,
the site is accepting registrations, though the deals won’t start
coming into your inbox until next week or so. “Right now we’re working
on all the back end site logistics to ensure our first deal will run
smooth,” Ibarra told Short Order.
At first the site will offer
deals on a new location every three days or so, with the deal running
for about two weeks. After a few weeks, halfoffdrinks.com will start
offering a daily deal, as well as hosting happy hours, socials, and
networkers. To pre-register for drink deals, visit halfoffdrinks.com.
