Boca Raton-based JES Publishing Corporation, publisher of Boca Raton magazine, has pulled the plug on Florida Table. The magazine’s latest summer issue — which featured South Florida’s James Beard award nominees on the cover — was its last. Editor Marie Speed bid farewell to the magazine in a blog post on the Boca Raton magazine website:
What is saddest to me is that although everyone “loved” this magazine, they did not support it financially–advertising was nearly impossible
to secure. Of course, that is why after more than three years we have
to stop publishing it: You can have the best magazine in the world but
magazines are a business, too–and if people do not support them, they
cease to exist.
It was just last week that I was reading through Florida Table. While I wasn’t a subscriber, I enjoyed reading it so it’s sad to see it go. Speed told Short Order that readers will still be able to get a dose of culinary content in a Florida Table section in Boca Raton magazine.
