The long-standing rumors of a “Joe’s Meal Deal” and those iconic green cups coming to Cutler Bay are finally solidifying into reality. Following a successful zoning workshop held earlier this week, Mayor Tim Meerbott confirmed that plans for the newest Flanigan’s Seafood Bar and Grill are officially moving forward.

In an update shared by local social media account @exit11southdade, Meerbott noted that the project is officially entering its next major phase. The update comes after months of speculation following the town’s initial announcement that the legendary South Florida chain would be joining the community.

The project is now slated for a full review before the Town Council on April 15. If the plans receive the final green light, the restaurant will take up residence at 20971 Old Cutler Road within the Shoppes of Cutler Bay, a new Publix-anchored center located directly next to the town’s upcoming Legacy Park.

A South Florida Staple Heads…South

For Cutler Bay residents, the arrival of the family-run institution, which has been a South Florida fixture since 1959, is the result of a push to expand local dining options. “This is something our residents have been hoping for, and we’re proud to finally say it’s happening,” Mayor Meerbott stated in a previous town release. “Flanigan’s is more than a restaurant – it’s a staple of South Florida culture.”

The new outpost will feature the brand’s nautical clutter, legendary rib rolls, and the green plastic cups. Jimmy Flanigan, president and CEO of Flanigan’s, has previously noted the strategic choice of the location, stating that the town’s investment in its future makes it an ideal fit for the brand’s expansion.

The Path to Construction

The successful workshop marks a major hurdle cleared for the project, which has been a top priority for local officials. The April 15 council meeting will be the next official step before the team can move into the permitting and vertical construction phases.

The location is a key piece of a larger push to revitalize the Old Cutler Road area. By putting the restaurant next to the Legacy Park project, the town is betting on Flanigan’s to serve as a popular gathering spot for locals looking to stay in the area for a casual night out.
