Alfredo Patino, owner of Edgewater’s Bin No. 18 and Tap 79, is jumping into the taco fray with plans to open his own spot not far from his 79th Street gastropub.

Patino said he’s in the middle of construction and hopes to open Firito Taco open by mid-March. Expect simple meat-onion-cilantro offerings served in pairs costing between $6 and $8.

“We’ll be doing nopales and a lot of slow-braised meats; tongue, cheek, lamb that kind of thing,” Patino said. Fried fish tacos will be breaded in cornflakes.

The concept will be similar to Steve Santana’s Taquiza. Customers will order tacos from a six-by-eight-foot window then grab a seat to eat at a small garden behind the main kitchen.

“The décor will be funky, recycled drift material, very rustic inside,” Patino said. “I just want people to grab a taco, a seat and enjoy.”

The announcement comes after New Times announced John Kunkel’s 50 Eggs would head back to one of the bearded boss’ spiritual homes with a taco and whiskey spot at Lime’s longstanding Alton Road location on Miami Beach. Kunkel sold the Lime chain to Ruby Tuesday in 2012 for $24 million.
