​’Tis once again the season for many local farmers’ markets to re-open their al fresco fruit peddling tables. If you want to sink your teeth into some fresh Florida flora, you’ve gotta know where and when to scoop up the bounty. Here’s the lowdown on Miami-Dade County farmers’ market openings and schedules.
Recently opened:
Roots in the City Urban Farmers’ MarketCorner of Second Avenue and NW 10th Street, Miami Wednesdays from 11:30 to 5 p.m.
Corner of NW Third Ave. and 16th StreetThursdays from 12 to 2 p.m.
Both open September through May.

These Overtown farmers’ markets bring locally grown kale, cherry tomatoes, yellow squash, and spinach to one of Miami-Dade County’s most under served communities. A special program gives consumers a $10 token, redeemable upon their next visit, when they buy $10-worth of produce.

Both UM’s and Barry University’s farmers’ markets offer live plants, gourmet baked goods, locally produced honey, locally made foods like jams, jellies, oils and vinegars, and of course fresh local produce.
