Doug Rodriguez has announced that he is “relocating” his De Rodriguez Cuba restaurant to the Hilton Bentley hotel, where De Rodriguez Ocean opened just a couple of months ago. In other words, both restaurants will be merging into one. Name of the new restaurant? “De Rodriguez Cuba on Ocean.”
The “new location will be offering complimentary parking and the De Rodriguez Cuba menu with my latest Ceviche selections,” says De man himself.
We reported recently that Rodriguez had missed much of Ocean’s debut months due to injuries, but that he was back on his feet and raring to go.
As a chef can’t be in two places at one time, this can only be good news for those who prefer a more focused “godfather of Nuevo Latino” cuisine. On the other hand, it may not be the best news for Rodriguez, who is closing the Cuba operation after barely a year in operation. Is the expanding D-Rod empire in retreat? Are we witnessing the Jonathan Eismann Effect taking hold?
Will you step up to support New Times this year?
At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $18,000 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.
We’re awaiting word from the chef as to why the move was made, and will update when we hear back.
