Howie Kleinberg, the forceful and ambitious chef known to all as the “Bulldog” persona from Top Chef, is expanding his Bulldog Barbecue empire. The North Miami eatery popular with the university crowd keeps drawing them in with North Carolina barbecue baby back ribs and pulled pork. Later this month, the no-frills restaurant plans to fill the space next door.
“Our burger is a huge seller, and I originally wanted more burgers on the Barbecue menu anyway, so this concept was a no-brainer” says Kleinberg.
The two restaurants will be connected and although you enter through two separate doors, once inside both menus will be available. However you view it, the menu sounds enticing with offerings such as the French bulldog full of bacon, caramelized onions, brie, crispy onions and Dijon mayo, or the Hawaii Five-O laden with crispy ham, roasted pineapple, pepper jack cheese and Kleinberg’s home made Big Kahuna sauce.
With a check average of $15 and daily burger specials, the restaurant hopes to pull in families and those looking for a great bite at wallet-friendly prices. The big question is whether or not Miami has room for another burger spot. Howie, it seems, is ready to give it a shot.
