Bond St. Lounge, the sexy sushi spot at the Townhouse Hotel in South Beach is closing on June 2.

According to Miami.com, the intimate lounge, which opened over a decade ago, will shutter on Sunday, making way for an upscale European pub. Even though a call to the Townhouse Hotel confirmed that Bond St. is still open (for now), the hotel has removed the sushi lounge from its website, replacing it with “stay tuned for what’s up and coming.”

The restaurant is the southern outpost of the flagship Bond St., located in New York City’s SoHo neighborhood. In a 2001 review, Lee Klein said that Bond St.’s “nigiri, sashimi, and sushi are consistently fresh and comparable to any in town, and the sake selection is superb.”

Bond St. also racked up several Miami New Times “Best Of” awards, being named best sushi restaurant in 2006 and best sushi in 2009.

Although the restaurant/lounge was lovely and intimate, sometimes it felt too intimate. Located in the basement of the Townhouse, it was somewhat hidden and seldom packed. Maybe that’s why, despite an extremely loyal following, it is finally saying “sayonara” to Miami Beach.

Restaurateur Amir Ben-Zion, who brought Bond St. to Miami, has seen a string of recent closures to some of his interests, including Cooper Avenue and South Street.
