South Florida’s pizza scene has spent the last few years obsessed with “naturally fermented” dough. Now, one of the loudest names in that movement is finally crossing the county line.

How Ya Dough’n, the New York-style sourdough pizza joint, will open its first Broward location in Coral Springs. The opening is set for this April.

Founded in Boca Raton, the company will open a new space in the Modera Coral Springs development, right next to City Hall. But the story behind the booming brand is even better than the inventive pizza pies themselves.

They have spent the last few years garnering acclaim like a 7.8 score from Barstool Sports’ Dave Portnoy and a spot on Yelp’s Top 100 list.

How the Sourdough Pizza Joint Started

Founders Garett and Gabby Goodman launched the pizza company in 2020, selling pizzas to neighbors out of their garage during the pandemic. Eventually, they opened brick-and-mortar locations in Boca and, more recently, in Las Vegas.

The 12-Day Ferment

While your average neighborhood pizza spot usually lets its dough rise for a day or two, How Ya Dough’n stretches that process out to 12 days. The restaurant is built on “cleaner” ingredients, such as high-protein organic sourdough flour, which is supposed to be easier to digest.

“Our gourmet pies are made with natural ingredients and fermented longer, creating a crust that’s lighter, crispier, and easier to digest,” explains Garett Goodman.

They also skip the bagged, pre-shredded cheese, sourcing fresh mozzarella from Mozzarita’s, a family-owned operation in Palm Beach County that’s been around since the mid-2000s. By hand-cutting the cheese in-house daily, the team avoids the anti-caking agents and preservatives that keep most commercial pizzas shelf-stable.

What’s on the Menu

The menu is a mix of traditional New York-style pies and creations designed for social media. The “Pistachio Pie” comes loaded with Havarti, truffle oil, and honey, while the “Drunken Balls” features vodka sauce and meatballs.

In addition to pizzas, they also offer “Dough Boys.” These are their versions of garlic knots made from the same sourdough base, as well as dry-rubbed chicken wings.

Free Pizza and More Boca Growth

The Coral Springs debut is part of a larger push for the brand this year.

To mark its move to Coral Springs, the restaurant is planning a free pizza giveaway for the public, though the specific date is still being finalized.

While the Broward location opens in late April, construction is already moving on a third Boca storefront in West Boca. This one will open this summer.
