Bengal Indian Cuisine restaurant at NE 20th and Biscayne Boulevard specializes in “modern Indian” food, but its influences range from traditional Northern Indian to Central Asian and Bangladeshi cooking. Owner Mainul Chowdhury’s native country is Bangladesh.

I walked in off the street, asked for the manager, and then asked Mainul if we could do a video interview. He said sure. I was lucky he was there in a behind-the-line capacity. On any other day, his two Indian chefs with 25 years of experience would handle the cooking duties. But Mainul is a restaurant industry veteran; he was even a chef in England for a while. He also counts Michael Schwartz of Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink as a friend. They used to work together at Nemo on South Beach.

Bengal Indian cuisine just started doing an all-you-can-eat lunch buffet. It costs $11.95 and features a daily rotation of everything on the menu. I tried it. It gets the fuckin’ awesome seal of approval. Here are the pictures…
