The pizza Gods are listening. Instead of another Papa John’s, Coral Gables is getting its own gourmet pie purveyor – a new branch of Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza.
The sixth branch of the chain in Miami-Dade county (and the 35th nationwide), the new locale opens on October 19, ready to serve up their always-popular, crispy crust creations.
Word is that the company got lots of requests from locals to open a Gables location.
Their menu includes traditional pies (all of which start with mozzarella, Italian plum tomatoes, Tomano cheese, basil and olive oil), and specialty pies like roasted cauliflower (cauliflower with olive oil, garlic, Romano and mozzarella cheeses, topped with bread crumbs) and white pizza (ricotta, mozzarella and Romano cheeses).
They also serve up some South Florida-centric pizza creations, like the Paul & Young Ron (meatballs, sausage, hot or sweet peppers and ricotta) and the eggplant Marino (thinly sliced eggplant layered with tomato sauce, topped with grated Romano and basil).
Will you step up to support New Times this year?
At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $18,000 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.
In addition to pies, Anthony’s uses their 800-degree antrancite coal-burning ovens to cook up sandwiches, pork ribs and chicken wings. Salads and other family-style “Italian Soul Food” dishes are also options.
The Gables branch will also have a full bar, which is unique to only a few locations.
So forget delivery and put some oven roasted grub in your gullet.
The new locale will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday at 2626 Ponce De Leon Blvd/
