Honeybee Doughnuts is poised to open a second shop at the Falls Shopping Center.The first Honeybee Doughnuts opened in South Miami almost exactly three years ago with owner Karen Muirhead, a corporate executive with a dream, decided to finally open a small shop featuring baked good made with buttermilk, honey, and organic butter in many recipes. “That really makes them amazing,” she says. “It makes a difference in how things are going to taste. I’m trying to go for the highest-quality ingredients possible.”

South Florida’s Sushi Maki chain has released three new vegan sushi rolls dubbed “Kenko” Rolls, which means “healthy” in Japanese. The new rolls are called the 24 Carrot, the Sweet Tato and the Mighty Shroom, and all feature purple, antioxidant-rich “forbidden” rice.

Nemr Aljabra doesn’t speak English or Spanish, but he’s fluent in Kitchenese. In late March, the 33-year-old dishwasher, prep cook, and Syrian refugee was featured on the Miami-based Instagram account Humans of the Kitchen. “Nemr is a grinder,” said Pablo Zitzmann of No Name Chinese, where Aljabra and two other refugees have worked in the kitchen since the place opened. When Aljabra started, it wasn’t easy; he had to communicate with the rest of the kitchen through Google Translate.
