The Corporation, a History of the Cuban Mob, Is a Made-in-Miami Story

Miami has provided the setting for truly epic crime tales turned into movies, such as War Dogs and Blow. The upcoming film The Corporation tells the story of Cuban crime lord Jose Miguel Battle’s rise to power in the underworld. The project stars Benicio del Toro, is based on a history penned by best-selling author T.J. English, and will be distributed by Paramount Pictures.

Sprung! Beer Festival Debuts Inaugural Sprung Games

The Winter Olympics ended last month, but sports will be alive and well at the Sprung! Beer Festival April 7 at the Wynwood Market Place. Sprung! organizer Tony Albelo says this year the festival will embrace the spirit of sportsmanship by adopting something of a beer Olympics.

26 Degree Brewing Co. Holding Fundraiser to Benefit Stoneman Douglas Students

Marjory Stoneman Douglas High resumed classes for the first time Wednesday since the massacre that killed 17 students and educators February 14. While the school attempts to return to normalcy, those affected still need lots of support. Pompano’s 26 Degree Brewing Co. is rising to the occasion by hosting a fundraiser Sunday, March 4, to benefit the families affected by the tragedy.

North Miami Beach Creates a Brewery District

The craft beer industry is so popular in Miami that many of the surrounding cities want to get a slice of the action. Among those is North Miami Beach, which announced January 18 it created the state’s “first” brewery district.

Lost City Brewing Company Coming to North Miami

North Miami is getting a second brewery, and the first one hasn’t even opened yet. Lost City Brewing Company signed a lease for a location at 12207 NE 13th Ct., two blocks from MOCA Plaza, according city documents. Descarga Brewing Company, North Miami’s other brewery, is slated to open at 12355 NE 13th Ave. Neither brewery has announced an opening date.

Miami Brewers Collaborate on Beers to Help Hurricane Relief Efforts

In the wake of Hurricanes Irma and Maria, Miami brewers have collaborated on several beers whose proceeds will be donated to relief efforts in Puerto Rico and the Florida Keys. M.I.A. Beer Co. in Doral has teamed up with breweries from the Tampa area — Coppertail, Green Bench, Cycle, and 7venth Sun — to make IRMA IPA. Proceeds from the sale of the beer will be donated to the nonprofit Feeding Florida.
