There is something addictive about showing off your body to strangers. Once you get some attention you crave more. The need intensifies if you are a bodybuilder. After spending hours a day working out and planning precision nutrition and exercise (not to mention drug) regimens, there is nothing better in life than slinging on a French-cut bikini and going biceps to biceps with your fellow muscleheads. The public will get a chance to get in on the action at the NPC Southern State Bodybuilding, Fitness and Figure Championships being held this weekend at Fort Lauderdale's War Memorial Auditorium (800 NE 8th St.). Spectators will get their dose of Vaselined muscle mass contracting and straining on the frames of beefy, supercharged men and women. Participants will get to feel high and almighty posing like Adonis or Atlas supporting the world on his shoulders. If you've never been to a bodybuilding competition, expect a frenzied energy to take over the crowd as disciples of discipline salute their mortal gods. -- By Juan Carlos Rodriguez
The fitness and figure competitions begin at 7:00 tonight, and the bodybuilding championships start at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2. Tickets range from $15 to $25. Call 954-763-2718.

Kicking Mass
Aerobicizers hop to it
With devotees around the world bouncing up and down like bunny rabbits on uppers, how can aerobics ever hope to be seriously considered as an Olympic sport? Oh, but wait, the onetime fitness fad is now called Sportaerobics. A sport, dammit! That means serious athletes, specialized associations, plenty of bureaucracy, and what every competitor hopes for: lots of tournaments to crown champions and possibly dole out fabulous prizes! In places like Miami. Where tonight at 7:30 at Ransom Everglades School's auditorium (3575 Main Hwy., Coconut Grove), the World Sport Aerobic Championships will showcase 300 athletes from 25 countries attempting to jump, kick, and high-step their way into your heart (and the judges' too). Call 305-532-3600 for ticket information. -- By Nina Korman
